The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) is urging health system policy makers, scholars and researchers in its member countries to submit abstracts related to “resilient and responsive health systems for a changing world”, this year’s theme for the Fourth Global Symposium on Health Systems Research, which will be held on 14-18 November 2016 in Vancouver, Canada.

Individual abstracts for the symposium are to be submitted by March 20, 2016.  Health Systems Global, the Canadian Society for International Health, and PAHO/WHO are cosponsors of the symposium. Submissions for sessions within the symposium should be based on research in areas including the political economy of health systems, health system resilience, anticipating changes within health systems to improve responsiveness, and health systems as incubators of innovation.

Travel support, to the extent available, may be provided to accepted presenters from low- and middle-income countries as well as full-time students. Promoting research and knowledge management in health systems constitutes an important part of PAHO/WHO’s efforts to support its member countries in advancing toward universal access to health and universal health coverage, goals that the countries of the Americas collectively endorsed in 2014.
