The Virtual Campus for Public Health of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) releases the Spanish Virtual Course "Prevention Measures and Cholera Treatment" (Curso Virtual “Medidas de Contención y Manejo Correcto del Cólera”).  This course has been prepared by the Secretariat of Health of Mexico and kindly shared for publication through the Virtual Classroom.

It is important to note that "in the world today 3 to 5 million cases of cholera occur annually and is responsible for 100,000 to 120,000 deaths. Overall, diarrheal diseases remain a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, especially among populations with the lowest human development ... "

The course presentation emphasizes that "having trained health professionals with the latest knowledge and tools available allows us to consolidate our response and offer society the health protection that all Mexicans are entitled to", as in all countries in the region of the Americas.

The self-learning course is divided into 4 modules:

  • Module 1: What is cholera?
  • Module 2: Prevention and communication
  • Module 3: Diagnosis and treatment
  • Module 4: Epidemiological surveillance of cholera

You can self-enroll in the course, review the contents, complete the final evaluation of the course and obtain your online certificate.
